DIY Wooden Bluetooth Speaker
π Overview
A classic mix of woodworking and electronics: build a wooden enclosure, fit a Bluetooth amplifier module, drivers, and a battery, and you have a portable wooden Bluetooth speaker.
Cut the shell from plywood or solid timber and cover the front panel with felt - it looks good and it is handmade.

- Bluetooth amplifier module (board with the amp chip onboard)
- Full-range drivers x2
- Li-ion battery + charging module (TP4056 or similar)
- Wood/plywood (enclosure) + felt (front panel trim)
- Wire, hot glue, screws, wood glue

Get a feel for the dimensions and structure before you start
Gather the parts
Pick an amp module with AUX input and a volume knob for more flexibility
Match driver size to enclosure volume; a big driver in a tiny box sounds muffled
Build the enclosure
Cut the panels from the plans: box, baffle, and back
Glue the joints with wood glue and clamp until dry
Fit the electronics
Lay out the amp, drivers, and battery inside the box
Measure the driver cut-outs first and solder the connections properly
Assemble
Mount the drivers into the baffle, fix the module, and tidy the wiring
Seal the joints with hot glue to reduce air leaks and resonance
Cover the baffle
Cover the front panel with felt or fabric to hide the screw holes
Remember to cut the openings clear for the drivers
Battery and charging
Connect the battery to the charging module and bring the charge port out the side
Insulate and secure the battery so vibration cannot short it
Finish and listen
Charge it, switch it on, and pair over Bluetooth
Muffled bass means a leak to seal; harsh treble improves with damping material behind the drivers
π‘ Tips
- Bigger enclosures give better bass; aim for at least 1 litre for a desktop speaker
- Cover solder joints with heat-shrink; reversing the battery polarity will kill the module
- Use sealing gaskets or foam under the drivers to stop the baffle resonating
